Chiropractic Questions

What is a chiropractor?

A Chiropractor is a health professional concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and works to remove or reduce the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and health in general. Chiropractors typically use a hands-on approach to treatment, known as manual therapy. This involves manipulation of the spine and other joints to relieve pain and improve function.

Are you an accredited chiropractor?

The title of “chiropractor” is protected by law, and it is a criminal offence for anyone to describe themselves as a chiropractor without being registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).

I am a fully registered member of the GCC and the McTimoney Chiropractic Association and am fully insured to practice. I am also a technique instructor at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic, where I enjoy helping potential future chiropractors on their journey into qualifying into the profession.

What are the benefits of chiropractic?

Chiropractic is an alternative medicine that is proven to help alleviate pain and discomfort and allow the return of patients to their normal activities.

The aim of a chiropractic care plan is not only to treat a complaint, but it is also focused on promoting good health and improved bodily functioning through the application of small forces, known as adjustments, which help prevent potential future problems occurring in the first place.

Should I worry about “popping noises”?

Popping noises are quite common during treatments and are simply a bi-product of an adjustment. They do not hurt, nor do they cause you any harm.

Can I use a chiropractor while pregnant?

Yes, however, whilst there are a range of benefits to using a chiropractor during pregnancy, Formby chiropractic do not currently offer treatment for pregnant women. This may change in the near future, however.

How long do I have to see a chiropractor for?

There is no generic number of treatments required when devising a treatment plan and the number of sessions a patient needs is dependent on their individual needs. Treatment is also evaluated on an ongoing basis which also dictates the number of treatments prescribed over a course of care.

Do I have to have pain to visit a chiropractor?

No, our treatments can be used as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of aches and pain. Most people however use us who are already suffering from pain or reduced mobility.

Is chiropractic safe?

Yes, chiropractic is seen as a safe treatment and is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council. Like with all treatments there can be side effects such as stiffness or pain for a day or two after.
